Multi-talented superstar Rihanna is once again making waves in the beauty industry as she takes on a new role as the face of Dior‘s J’Adore fragrance. Fresh off the launch of her Fenty Hair line, the nine-time Grammy winner and mogul is making history as the first black woman and second act to take on the role for the iconic French fashion house.
“The scent that I have known and loved for so long means so much to women,” Rihanna said in a brand statement released to WWD. “I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”
Rihanna’s appointment marks a new era for the popular J’Adore fragrance, which has been a staple in the fragrance world since its release in 1999. The fragrance has spawned several iterations over the years, including an alcohol-free version called J’Adore Parfum d’eau and J’Adore l’Or, a purer version reimagined by Francis Kurkdjian, the Creative director of Parfums Dior.
Dior expressed their excitement at welcoming Rihanna to the family, saying, “J’Adore has been present for women all over the world. It is the perfume of a powerful, liberated, and independent woman, which resonates with Rihanna’s personal story, one she has made her own, wearing it as an emblem of audacity and seduction.”
This isn’t Rihanna’s first foray into fragrance. She previously released a collection of 11 perfumes with fragrance house Parlux in 2010. In 2021, Rihanna gave fans the opportunity to smell like her with the launch of her Fenty Eau de Parfum, which sold out within hours of its release.
In taking on this new role with Dior, Rihanna follows in the footsteps of South African actress Charlize Theron, who served as the previous face of J’Adore for two decades. Theron will remain in the Dior family, transitioning to a role as the brand’s skincare and jewelry ambassador.
The new campaign featuring Rihanna, shot by renowned photographer Steven Klein, will debut on September 1st.
Rihanna’s new business endeavors may mean fans will have to wait even longer for her ninth album, which she teased at her Fenty Hair launch event.
