Dorothée Meilichzon’s innovative concept surpasses expectations by revealing not one but two candles in a striking contrast of colors and finishes. The silhouette of the iconic Art Deco bottle is transformed: the radiant energy of bright yellow meets the serene purity of white, and the tactile allure of biscuit texture contrasts with the smooth sophistication of glaze.
The name “Chapeau!” cleverly plays on a double meaning, referring to both a headdress and a compliment. The sculptural form holds two candles: a 330-gram, single-wick candle in the enameled sandstone lid and a second 1600-gram, four-wick candle handcrafted in the ceramic bottle base. The clean, precise design preserves the signature silhouette while providing generous, even illumination.
Crafted from the finest white ceramic, the base begins as a “cookie,” an unglazed ceramic mold that is sandblasted to a smooth surface that retains a raw, tactile quality with a nuanced matte finish. The lid, on the other hand, is enameled and fired twice, with a second layer of glaze applied for a brilliant yellow finish that complements the minerality of the base. The embossed plate, applied by hand, reveals a contemporary version of the Acqua di Parma emblem, a testament to the traditional craftsmanship that goes into each piece.
“We have preserved Acqua di Parma’s heritage, highlighting both the brand’s origins and its modernity,” says Dorothée Meilichzon. “We focused on the key elements that define its essence, allowing us to innovate creatively without too many constraints. My work often emphasizes the balance of contrasts, such as the Bougie Chapeau. Its bright yellow lid contrasts with the structure of the candle, which has an organic, neutral finish in matte white.“
