The fashion designer Alessandro Michele, having cancelled Gucci’s catwalk shows during the pandemic, needed a way to showcase his latest collection Spring/Summer 2021.
This week, the Italian luxury brand is hosting GucciFest, a digital fashion and film festival on guccifest.com and on its YouTube channel.

Gucci’s curated selection of short films feature the work of 15 emerging fashion designers and directors from around the globe. The centerpiece of the virtual festival is a seven-part collaboration between Alessandro Michele and American filmmaker Gus Van Sant.
A great admirer of Van Sant’s films, Alessandro Michel fell in love with his wonderful ‘’My Own Private Idaho’’ thirty years ago, starring Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. ‘’This film changed my life, liberated me, allowed me to understand who I was, in a delicate and unconventional way’’, says the artistic director of the house of Gucci.
The seven episodes of ‘’Ouverture of Something That Never Ended’’ shot during a twenty-day in a deserted city of Rome follow Silvia Calderoni, a nonbinary actress, writer, dancer and DJ. Different places of her everyday life were presented in the course of the shots: her shared apartment, a trip to the post office, a shopping spree in a vintage store in Rome and encounters with celebrities and models close to the fashion house, such as Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, all dressed in Gucci creations, including re-releases of Michele’s designs from his first Fall/Winter 2015 collection.
