Gong Yoo, the acclaimed South Korean actor, has been named Louis Vuitton‘s newest house ambassador.
The 44-year-old, whose birth name is Gong Ji-cheol, is no stranger to the luxury brand, having fronted ads for the LV Tambour Horizon watch in 2017 and attended the opening of the Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul boutique in 2019. Most recently, he was present at the house’s Paris Spring/Summer 2025 menswear show designed by Pharrell Williams.
Over the past two decades, Gong Yoo has been praised for the depth and variety of his roles, from his breakout performance in the 2007 TV drama “Coffee Prince” to his acclaimed work in “Train to Busan” and the Netflix sci-fi series “The Silent Sea.” Fans are eagerly anticipating his return as the Salesman in the second season of the Netflix blockbuster “Squid Game” later this year.
In addition to his acting skills, Gong Yoo’s philanthropic efforts align with Louis Vuitton’s values. Appointed as UNICEF’s special representative in South Korea in 2013, a role he still holds today, he has been an advocate for mental health and environmental issues.
In 2011, his starring role in “Silenced,” based on a true story of abuse at a home for children with hearing disabilities, sparked a public outcry over the lenient sentences given to those involved in the case. The film’s release ultimately led to a change in the law in South Korea, demonstrating the power of Gong Yoo’s performances to effect real change.
Louis Vuitton continues to solidify its presence in the South Korean luxury market with a strong roster of ambassadors, including members of Le Sserafim, Felix of Stray Kids, Hyein of NewJeans, and J-Hope of BTS.
